While the George Symons’ family business manufactured uniforms for the Queensland Police, Railways, Ambulance, Fire Brigade and the RAAF, as well as lots of school wear, the name is most famously associated with men’s fashion
garments and suits.
George Symons himself will be the speaker at our April meeting.
Applying all of his charming raconteurial skills, he’ll stitch together the family generational story, starting from the small Greek island of Castellorizo, and he’ll mark out the seam that continues through Egypt, Gallipoli during WWI with the Aussies, Adelaide, Melbourne, and finally Brisbane, and not forgetting exports to Hong Kong and four shops in Sydney.
“Yes, there are even New Farm connections,” says George, a well known local resident.
Come and hear George’s skilfully-tailored yarns on Saturday 28 April, 2-4pm, at Merthyr Road Uniting Church Centre. Arrive early, and bring a friend since all are welcome. Afternoon tea will be provided.
