24th February 2024
Fortitude Valley’s Centenary Place will be the subject of the society’s first talk for 2024.
Located at the city end of Valley, the heritage listed park is home to statues, palm trees, lush gardens and mature fig trees.
Society member and local historian Robert Allen will chart the park’s history from its establishment in 1924 and outline its various uses over the past century, including as a speaker’s corner, a meeting point for Brisbane’s Scottish community and home to the Brisbane Tramways’ lost property office.
2:30PM | Uniting Church Centre, 52 Merthyr Road, New Farm.
Entry Fee (cash preferred) | $5.00 members | $10.00 non-members | includes afternoon tea.
All welcome!
I am so pleased to see Centenary Place is correctly titled. For far too long it has been referenced by many who do not seem to know that Centenary Park is not how it was originally titled. I brought this to the notice of council via Vicki Howard in 2023 and council agreed to correctly show it in its assets register and maps. I should have brought this to the attention of NFDHS. My apologies.
