25th May 2019
Once upon a time, a grand house named Dara stood overlooking Fortitude Valley just across from All Hallows School.
The account of Dara and how the site became known as Cathedral Place will be the subject of our post-election meeting in May.The guest speaker will be Archdiocesan Archivist, Fr Denis Martin, author of the recent impressive book, A Hill in the Valley: Dara and the Holy Name Cathedral.
It is an intriguing story, well supported by the dramatis personae who include: William Augustine Duncan (Duncan Street), TC Beirne, Patrick Mayne, George Wilkie Gray (Gray Street, New Farm), Bishops James Quinn and Robert Dunne, and of course, Archbishop James Duhig.
2-4pm | Merthyr Road Uniting Church Centre.
Afternoon tea will be provided. Arrive early!
