JOIN US for a look at seven emblematic houses of New Farm, your guides being an architect and a local historian.
Meet at 8:30 at the bus stop adjacent to the New Farm Park ferry terminal for a history walk which combines local architecture and social history.
Your guides will be architect Emma Butterworth and historian and author Gerard Benjamin, and the itinerary takes in Bowen Terrace, Balfour, Moray, Langshaw and Maxwell Streets, and then Lower Bowen Terrace.
The architectural styles range from an 1860s worker’s cottage, to an 1890s ‘Japanese house’, to a 1930s masterpiece of Art Deco — with lots of talking points in between!
This walk comes by popular demand following Emma and Gerard’s highly enjoyable presentation at the New Farm & Districts Historical Society in May 2026.
Bring your Go-Card because we will take the 196 bus to the Brunswick Hotel before working our way back to Merthyr Village where there will be plenty of scope to enjoy a cuppa for those who can stay.
